The aim of asset surveying is to accurately record the buildings and their mechanical and electrical assets in a single, structured register. The accuracy of this data is the foundation of an effective asset management strategy, including a robust planned preventative maintenance (PPM) regime.

APSAS is a new professional association, which has been a collaborative industry initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of asset surveying in the UK, through the creation and delivery of comprehensive training programs and the establishment of clear competency standards within the industry. By focusing on the professional development of asset surveyors, APSAS aims to ensure that practitioners are equipped with the skills and knowledge to take their roles to a new level and for those procuring their services, to have confidence in their ability to deliver the surveying services.

Those who own and manage estates and are keen to ensure they have an accurate record of their building assets, given the importance of holding such information to assisting to evidence statutory and mandatory compliance and also to help in developing maintenance and asset life cycle plans. Accurate building asset records also assist organisations to better procure their mechanical and electrical service contracts.
APSAS is also relevant to those individuals and companies who provide asset surveying services and wish to periodically assess the competency of their surveyors, as well as to train and develop them.

APSAS is a not-for-profit association and formally is owned by five respected industry professionals, who identified the need to professionalise and advance asset surveying industry. However the professional association has been an industry led collaborative initiative with several roundtable briefings and regular update communications in advance of formally establishing APSAS.

There are three levels of competency: basic, intermediary and advanced.

We do not currently provide any training courses, but this will be part of the future offering of APSAS. We plan to collaboratively partner with another professional institution to develop and deliver the training offering, based on our current competency manual.Item description

The cost to be a founding member is £500 +VAT and we are only offering this to a few key companies.

Mechanical and electrical surveying is both underappreciated and underrepresented by professional institutions/associations; for example there are other professional organisations who are more concentrated on building surveying rather than asset surveying.
Therefore the creation of APSAS addresses a market need to develop the professional identity of this area of work and to provide a career pathway for current and future practitioners.
